Operational limits
Referenced by Terms of Service Section 5.11 and Acceptable Use Policy Section 5.
These are the limits the Service applies. They exist to keep Cedent available for everyone using it, not to meter your work.
What is limited

| The size of a single request, other than a file upload | 10 MB | Far above anything ordinary work produces — a thousand-page document is a couple of megabytes. Uploading a file is covered by the row above instead. |
The request limits are measured over a rolling one minute window. Going over one means a request is refused and can be retried a moment later; nothing is suspended, queued, or billed differently, and no work is lost.
What shares a budget differs by limit, and the table says which applies. The overall request limit is counted per source network address, so a firm working from one office shares it. Matter chat and the scratchpad are counted per signed-in person instead, so one person working heavily does not use up another's. Neither is counted per firm.
If either ever becomes a constraint on ordinary work, write to us and we will raise it. Section 5.11 commits us to accommodating you before we take any restrictive action, and we would rather hear about it early.
What is not limited
The following carry no cap, no daily quota, and no metering of any kind:
- Matters — opened, stored, or worked on
- Document storage
- Emails ingested, per day or in total
- AI processing volume, per day or in total
- Briefs, drafts, summaries, and deadline calculations generated on a schedule
- Court forms generated
In particular, there is no daily cap on how much email Cedent will take in for you, and no daily cap on how much AI work it will do on your matters. Those are unmetered.
Changes
We will give reasonable notice before materially reducing a limit published here, and introducing a limit on something listed as unmetered counts as a reduction. See Terms of Service Section 5.11.
