Our Mission
Solo and small firm attorneys carry the weight of an entire practice on their shoulders. We're building the AI matter assistant that takes the first pass on administrative legal work - so attorneys can focus on judgment, strategy, and advocacy.
A solo family law attorney doesn't just practice law. They manage deadlines, fill out court forms, triage their inbox, track billing, chase missing documents, and coordinate filings - all while advocating for clients going through one of the most difficult periods of their lives.
We believe AI should handle the administrative layer of legal practice - not replace the attorney's judgment, but standardize the repetitive work so the attorney can focus on strategy, advocacy, and client relationships. That's what Cedent does.
We started with California family law and Bay Area counties because jurisdiction specificity matters. Generic AI tools don't know that Santa Clara County has different court holidays than Alameda County, or that CCP ยง 1005 requires court-day calculations, not calendar-day calculations. We built that knowledge in from day one.
What we believe
"AI should yield to attorney judgment."
Every AI action goes through a staging queue. The attorney always has the final say. We don't believe in autonomous AI for high-stakes legal work.
"Jurisdiction specificity is non-negotiable."
County-level court rules, holiday calendars, and filing procedures vary. A useful legal AI must know these differences - not assume one size fits all.
"Every fact needs a source."
Trust-ranked case knowledge means no fabricated claims. Every fact in a synopsis is linked to a document with a confidence level, so the attorney can always verify.
"AI should work alongside existing tools, not replace them."
Attorneys have workflows and systems that work. Cedent adds an AI execution layer alongside those tools - handling the work your PMS stores but doesn't do.
"The best tool is the one that disappears."
Attorneys shouldn't have to manage their AI. Cedent should take the first pass quietly, surface what matters, and stay out of the way.
Where we're headed
California family law is the beginning.
We're building the AI matter assistant for legal work - starting deep in one jurisdiction and expanding outward.
California family law across 6 Bay Area counties. Deadlines, forms, email triage, billing, and multi-agent AI.
Additional California counties and practice areas - criminal defense and civil litigation. Deeper integrations with existing practice management tools.
Multi-state expansion with jurisdiction modules that plug in without code changes. The goal: one AI matter assistant that works wherever you practice.
